Allan McCollum + Pablo Helguera
Allan McCollum (b. 1944) lives and works in New York. He has spent over forty years exploring how objects achieve public and personal meaning in a world constituted in mass production. McCollum has had over 100 solo exhibitions. He has produced public art projects in the United States and Europe, and his works are held in over seventy art museum collections worldwide. Pablo Helguera (b. 1971) is an artist based in New York, working with installation, sculpture, photography, drawing, socially engaged art and performance. Helguera's work focuses on a variety of topics ranging from history, pedagogy, sociolinguistics, ethnography, memory, and the absurd, in formats that are widely varied including the lecture, museum display strategies, musical performances and written fiction.
Placeholders
Allan McCollum and Pablo Helguera collaborated to create Placeholders, a series of abstract screenprints. The imagery are re-creations of framed artworks featured in Helguera's Artoons (see below), cartoons about the art world. The prints are of varying sizes and each work in the series of thirteen is printed in an edition of four.
